Code Name: The Bouncer

Nigeria is like a bouncer, standing by the entrance of club Destiny, restricting who and whom get into Success's party. You gotta know "someone" to get into VIP, screw what you know men, it won't count.

I always was the pawn, like the game of chess, I was always at the forefront, being the first to attack, left and right, whoever says "Its who you know that matters, not what you know," not seeing the true enemy directly infront of me which I couldn't reach because I believed it's by your own efforts that you make a name.

Nigeria is a nation that boasts of great wealth, and has a great sense of pride and demand for respect. Yes we have the wealth, and double "yes," we still nosedive into debt.

I had applied to many organisations on my own: dropping my CV here, dropping one there, just to be occupied till NYSC in November. I knew my family had the connects, but I deliberately avoided those areas to make an effort of my own. I was soon fed up of dead ends,"oh sorry we don't accept anyone lesser than NYSC here" "oh sorry we don't employ IT nor NYSC here anymore," so I picked up the phone "Hello, mum, call one of your friends please, I need to work." And that was it. A spectacular paying bank job.

Like sugar, spice and everything nice were my graduating results, CV and essay. Nothing, under normal circumstances would see these three things and not reckon with me, but all couldn't produce the perfect little experiment, it needed that "Chemical X"...it needed the reference of "someone".

I hope the rest of the graduating class and every other person don't toil and suffer to find a dream job, temporarily or long term. If all the fresh graduates and other viable heads still roam in rigmarole for a dream job and get none, and all the bubble, deedee heads get all the jobs, then this green white green can't escape sinking. I wish us all the best. Amen.
